U.S. WAR PRODUCTION
Dissension Among Board Members (Received August 25, 8.50 p.m.) WASHINGTON, August 25. White House has announced the resignation of Mr. Wilson, vice-chairman of the War Production Board, which the /Associated Press of America says blows wide open the top structure of the board. Mr. Wilson was the former president of General Electric, and joined the board nt Mr. Roosevelt’s request in 1942. He tried previously to resign and return to private life. His latest attempt was on August 19, when the President asked him to remain till Germany capitulated. Mr. Wilson sent a letter to Mr. Roosevelt following the announcement that Mr. Nelson was visiting China, stating that unfair attacks were made on him and stories circulated that he was opposed to the partial reconversion of industrial plants to civilian production, which were inspired, he said, by subordinates of Mr. Nelson's personal staff. Mr. Wilson added that Mr. Nelson disclaimed responsibility, asserting that the attacks were made without-, his knowledge or approval. Mr. Roosevelt, after a long consultation with Mr. Nelson, reluctantly accepted the resignation. He said he was aware that dissension existed within the board, and he hoped it would disappear. Mr. Roosevelt has appointed Lieut.Commander J. Krug, former vice-chair-man of the board, as acting chairman.
