BACK FROM MIDDLE EAST
Brigadier N. W. Weir (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 25. After about 18 months’ service with the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the Middle. East and Central Mediterranean, Brigadier N. »V. McD. Weir. C.8.E., N.Z.S.C., arrived at Auckland by flying-boat from Sydney. He left for Wellington tonight. Brigadier Weir was officer commanding the Northern Military District at the outbreak of the war and retained that appointment till toward the end ot 1940. He then left to take command of the Central Military District. Later he was promoted temporary major-general and appointed to command the Home Defence Division.
At the end of 19+2, Brigadier Meir relinquished his temporary rank of Majorgeneral and was seconded to the 2nd N.Z.E.F. He carried out various staff duties in the Middle East and saw something of the latter stages of the North African victory. Later he became officer commanding New Zealand troops in Egypt. He also did a considerable amount of travelling and has been m Italy.
