“TARZAN TRIUMPHS”

(Second week).' The success predicted last week has come the way of ‘Tarzan Triumphs” (State). Wisely timed for the school holidays, here is a film which provides ideal entertainment -or younger filmgoers, witli an up-to-date mixture of the familiar “Tarzan" pattern and a background of Kazi aggression in the jungle To obtain valuable raw materials for the Nazi war machine a force of German parachutists lands in Tarzan’s jungle, captures a lovely hidden city, and witli typical 'azi overtones of brutality sets the inhabitants to work. But Tarzan comes to the rescue, and succeeds in defeating the invaders of his jungle peace. Johnny Weismuller and "Boy” Sheffield play their usual roles. as Tarzan aud his son. but on this occasion Tarzan’s mate is absent, and the feminine interest Is supplied by Frances Giftard as a lovely princess of the type so easily discovered by film producers, but seldom, unfortunately, encountered by explorers, ine human actors are wtill enough, but they are all overshadowed by. the performance of Chita, Tarzan's tame monkey. -She Is an actress of considerable ability, and is responsible for all the comedy, and much of the dramatic interest, in this popular him. “MINESWEEPER” Just us the ground crew in any. air force gets all too little credit .or limelight for the work it does, so do the men who sweep the seas clear of mines get scant notice or attention. “Minesweeper (De Luxe) sets out to repair the omission and becomes an exciting and entertaining film in the process. Based on the preparation of. men for the navy’s hazardous -work of mine disposal, the film was fortunate in enlisting the practical aid and sympathy of the u.b. Navy. Obviously all the non-confidential training which goes into the making of a first-class navy man received full attention from the cameramen. The film tells the story of a naval lieutenant (Richard Arlen) who gets into difficulties with a pack of gamblers. Faced with the prospect of losing his commission. he deserts but later re-enlists smartly after the Pearl Harbour business. An a gunners mate aboard a minesweeper, he discovers that his off-sider (Bussell Hayden) is.also his rival for Jean Parker. Both men travel the hard road together at the naval school and underseas aud are finally deputed to detonate a Japanese mine lodged in the harbour. “Orchestra Wives” (Tivoli).— Starring Lynn Bari and Carole Landis.
