PRISONERS’ PARCELS
The Prisoners of War inquiry office headquarters has been advised by the New Zealand High Commissioner in London, Mr. Jordan, that in view of the interruption in tlic means of transport to Switzerland, the Imperial Prisoners of War Committee has authorized the International lied Cross Io instruct camp leaders to reduce the rate of issue of food parcels, as a temporary measure, to one a fortnight for each man. There is no immediate prospect of ti serious shortage, but tho possibility exists that supplies in hand might get below what; is considered the necessary minimum reserve. Arrangements now made for reduced supplies of food parcels will provide a total of 10 fortnightly issues before the present supplies available to I be camp are exhausted. It is hoped that in this interval transport facilities will become available. The shipment of parcels from New Zealand will continue to be dispatched in the expectation that by the time they reach Europe present difficulties will have been overcome. Everything possible will be done to ensure that the welfare of prisoners of war is fully safeguarded.
