Distribution Of £14,000

CHARITY AND EDUCATION A distribution of £14,000 was approved at the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Thomas George Maearthy Trust held in Wellington yesterday. The following were present:—His Excellency the GovernorGeneral, the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), his Grace Archbishop O’Shea, the mayor (Air. Appleton), and the Public Trustee (Mr. W. G. Baird). Previous distributions were £325,467, so that, with this year’s grants, £339,467 has been made available for charitable and educational purposes and institutions in the provincial district of Wellington in terms of the trust. Charitable or educational institutions in the provincial district of Wellington are eligible for grants, and in accordance with the usual practice, applications were invited by notices in the Press in January. One hundred and seventyeight applications were received, as compared with 177 last year. . The applications arc first considered by the advisory committee, of which the present personnel is: Mrs. Henry Hak, Mr. Perry, M.L.C., Sir James Grose, K. 8., Mr. L. O. IL Tripp, Mr. M. J. Kennedy, and Mr. W. G. Baird, 1 üblic Trustee (chairman). After the applications have been dealt with by the advisory committee its recommendations are considered by the Board of Governors.
