TARGETS IN AUSTRIA
. Allied Air Offensive (British Official Wireless.) (Received August 24, 8 p.m.) RUGBY, August 23. Up to 500 Liberators and Fortresses penetrated into Austria for, the second day running today to attack installations and dispersal- areas at the Markersdorf aerodrome, 35 miles west of Vienna, and other targets in the Vienna area, says a war correspondent in Rome. Allied bombers attacked military objectives at Miiskolys, 95 miles northeast of Budapest, last night. Fiftyseven enemy planes were destroyed in these operations, and 45 Allied planes are missing. . Mitchells of the Tactical Air Force flew farther into France than ever before. attacking railway bridges 190 miles north-west of Marseilles. New ■ Incendiary Bomb. A new incendiary bomb used by, the R.A.F. has now proved its worth in, a number of attacks on German industrial areas. On the night of April 24 Munich was attacked by fewer than 250 Lancasters. mainly carrying the new incendiary. Very large areas iu the commercial and administrative centre of the town were badly damaged. The new bombs were also’ used in three recent attacks on Stuttgart and proved most effective.
