SUNDAY CONCERT ISSUE
By five votes to four the Petone Borough Council this week defeated a motion to grant permission for the holding of two Sunday concerts. Permission had been sought by xMiss M. Gough to hold a Sunday concert in aid of the Aged and Needy Christmas Cheer Fund and by the Junior Labour League for a Sunday concert in aid of patriotic funds. The mayor. Mr. Green, said there had been some moral laxity among young people, due no doubt to the war. and it would be good for them to hav<* a lit th' discipline. Young people should be asked to devote some of tlie money they raised at dances to these causes. Cr. J. Iluggan said he would much prefer to see young people in a hall than the *‘group Sunday concerts * which could be seen in doorways any Sunday night. IL‘ stronglv supported organized games on Sunday in preference to having boys breaking and entering promises on Sunday.
