Fate Of Civilians In Florence (Received August 22, 9.20 p.m.) LONDON, August 22. In 12 mass murders during the German occupation of Florence, 1326 civilians were killed, the Allied authorities have learned. British correspondents say 233 Italian civilians were murdered by the Germans in Florence just before the Eighth Army entered the city on August 9.
An Italian boy was shot because he would not give his watch to a German soldier who already had 16 watches. Eighty other Italian men and boys rounded up from apartment houses were shotin the square where the argument about the watch occurred. Another 153 civilians were maebinegunned outside Florence.
