Victory Gardens
Sir, —i interested to read the. letter in a recent issue of “The Dominion' over the above signature. It is to be hoped that the suggestions contained therein will b e brought, before the notice of those concerned with the actual planning of this venture, for a “retreat” on these lines would go far toward providing our city with facilities which it has so sadly lacked in the past. The council is to be commended for tackling this problem. ~ , Surely with such an excellent opportunity offering, it would seem niggardly indeed if the Dominion’s capital could not afford to sacrifice a few ancient buildings and a piece of roadway, in order to provide the ; community with an adequate and worthy Civic Centre, to include generaus open spaces. The surrounding of the whole space with the beauty and dignity of fine trees is, I think, an excellent and most important suggestion as trees “speak for themselves ’ and will add a new and much needed beauty to Wellington’s City horizons. —I am, etc., CAPITAL CITY, Wellington, August 22.
