RINK WORKS SOUNDLY AT AWAPUNI

Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., August 20. With the approach of the spring racing fixtures Awapunl candidates are now moving along in their'work and are being speeded up. Already the indications are that tills centre will again be well to the fore this season. - The pegs were about 50ft. out on Saturday morning on the course proper, and the track was dead and inclined to cut out. Greek Effort and Merger were sent over a mile, which took 1.58, the last three furlongs in 45. Flying Ace came home from the three furlong peg in 43 2-5, and in a similar task Claseform and Kinsman registered 41 2-5. An impressive effort went to the credit of Rink, who'was doing better than Subdued at the conclusion of a mile run in 1.56 3-5, the last three furlongs in 43 1-5. Both are in excellent condition. Theioress sprinted home three furlongs in 43 1-5. Sival and Intense were another pair of G. W. New’s team to be sent over a mile They ran the first five furlongs in 1.14, and the mile in 1.58 1-5. Don Quex and a mate ran a mile in 1.57 1-5, the last three furlongs in 43 1-5, and Langue d’Or and Battle Dance went over the same ground in 1.59, the last three furlongs in 44. Financial and Te Wanakn ran home from the three furlongs in 39 3-5. Financial has done very well. Gold Bridge and The Champ took 1.59 to run a mile. Theolateral, who is looking a picture of health, was given an easy run over five furlongs in 1.14.

Merry Joe and Don Mac, members of L. Knapp's team, covered five furlongs in 1.11 4-5. Starting from the six furlong barrier, Blanket and Dileas left six furlongs behind in 1.22 3-5.
