HATRED AMONG NAZIS

Russians’ No. 1 Enemy (Received August 21, 11.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 21. “We do not hate the British or the Americans, but we hate the Russians.” This reply was given to the North American Newspaper Alliance correspondent in west France by one of the thousands of German prisoners. Several of them expressed the complete conviction that some time, soon, and possibly even in this war, British. Ainercans and French would join Germany in the fight against Russia. Of one thing they were all sure —Communism would never take hold in Germany. One of them said: “The National Socialist Party is through as far as the people are concerned. It made too many mistakes. We cannot say what will follow. but it will not be Communism.” The correspondent says: “When you ask them about Hitler they do not answer but shrug their shoulders, grin apologetically and look ashamed. There can lie no more, complete indictment of the Fuehrer. The German prisoners work astonishingly well and are well satisfied with their treatment. They are certainly being well looked after: so much so that a local newspaper published a French complaint that the Americans were being too solicitous about the welfare of the Germans and should give more of their special foods and so-called luxuries to the French.”
