The retirement of Mr. John Eraser, the general manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, is announced. .Mr. Fraser was appointed general manager of the hoard at its inception m 192and has held this responsible position ever since. ... , 41 ,„ The formation of the board was the result of the slump in 1922, which was so disastrous to the producers of tins Dominion. To place the industry on a more stable basis, many reforms were instituted by the board, including the taking over of all shipping freight contracts. regulation of shipments, standard grading of meat, and advertising in the United Kingdom. During his service as general mtulager of the board, Mr. Fraser has undertaken these large responsibilities which have been <>l great benefit to all farmers in the Dominion. To ascertain tlie potentialities of South America as an exporter of meat. Mr. Fraser spent some considerable time in the Argentine in 1923, and prepared a valuable report for the hoard. He also visited London on several occasions in connexion with freight contracts and the importation of New Zealand produce into the United Kingdom and elsewhere. In 1935 he visited the United Kingdom in connexion with trade agreements negotinted by the late Mr. Coates, and also in 1937'with Mr. Nash. ... t During the war he has carried out responsible duties in connexion with tlie sale and grading of meat sold to the (United Kingdom and the United States. The fixing of schedule prices paid to farmers has been u responsibility handled by Mr. Fraser.
