DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR
Miss Winifred McQuilkan, principal of Columba Girls' College, Dunedin, is expected to arrive in Wellington today by air to attend a conference of representatives of Presbyterian Church schools. She wil be staying at Scots College. Miss McQuilkan is an exceptionally brilliant graduate and has headed New Zealand examination lists on many occasions, qualifying for many university scholarships and prizes. As a travelling scholar of the University of New Zealand she proceeded to Somerville College, Oxford, returning to New Zealand at the beginning of the war with an Oxford “first.” While overseas Miss McQuilkan had many interesting experiences, and was presented to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. Since her return she hus delighted many audiences with her talks on travel, literature aud topics affecting schoolgirls. The chairman of examiners in Oxford described her as a student ot altogether remarkable excellence and her literary style as the finest he had encountered in 20 years of examining and teaching.
