“WOMEN AREN’T ANGELS”

(Second week).—“An Aldwyc farce" has always been descriptive of a particular type of English farce, and "Women Aren't Angels” (Regent) rims true, to form, even though tho Aldwych company has been broken up for many years, and this new show was written, not by Ben Travers but by Vernon Sylvalne. The only fixed point in this world of change is Robertson Hare, still persecuted and put upon, not now by Tom Walls and Ralph Lynn but by their most efficient, substitute, Alfred Drayton. Drayton and Hijre are partners in a music publishing business —this fact appears to have nothing to do with the plot, except that! it serves to bring them in close contact with a very attractive female crooner, to the distress of' Drayton’s wife. Hare, of course. Iff so completely under his wife’s thumb that she feels she need not worry. However, when the two wives leave home ou duty (they are officers in the A.T.S.), things happen very quickly—in the most inuoccnt way, of course. Pretty girls are forced to stay the night In compromising circumstances, the two men ruin a valuable Home Guard exercise, and, worst of all. the husband of one of the girls arrives in a hurry aud a very bad temper. Not till the two have disguised themselves in their wives’ clothes as A.T.S. officers (probably tlie funniest scene in a very funny picture) docs everything work out happily, with the incidental capture of some fifth columnists who somehow get involved in the story. “Women Aren't Angels" is one of the very good English farces, and it has the two very best English farce actors to interpret it. ’
