VON PAULUS APPEAL

Greater Authority Given Peace Campaigners (From Godfrey Blunden, Special Correspondent.) STOCKHOLM, August .15. Field-Marshal von Paulus's appeal to the German people to get rid of Hitler and dissociate themselves from the crimes committed by the Nazis is of the greatest Political significance. Speaking over Moscow radio, von Paulus, who was captured at Stalingrad, said the war was lost to the Germans through the fault of Hitler. “Recent events.” said von Paulus, “have made continuance of (he war senseless.” Von Paulus, who is a Prussian officer of the old regime, lias so far refrained from taking any obvious part, in the activities of the. Free German Committee in Moscow, whose chairman is General Seydlitz. But it is probable that von Paulus has been one of the most important influences behind the scenes. Last night Paulus pointed out that there were no reserves left inside Germany to back up the present fighting. Other German armies, he said, must expect (o he sacrificed by Hitler in the same way as the Sixth Army at Stalingrad. Because of the respect he commands among Gorman staff officers, it is probable that his appeal will have considerable effect on the armies fighting in East Prussia and Poland. His words give greater authority to the Free German Committee in Moscow. Stories leaking through Io Stockholm from Germany indicate that the attack on Gorman morale is also being carried on inside Germany. Small rod stickers are appearing on walls all over Germany, offering a reward of 10 marks for Hitler's head. The stickers describe ironically how Hitler may be recognized and add that his residence is known. The stickers are ostensibly signed by Karl Goerdeler. former mayor of Leipzig, who disappeared during the recent abortive attempt to overthrow Hitler, and for whose cantiiro. dead or alive, Hitler is offering a million marks
