OFF RIVIERA
Seven British AircraftCarriers (British Official Wireless.) (Received August 20, 7 p.m.) RUGBY, August 19. At midnight on Thursday a force of Gorman motor torpedo-boats attempted to attack troops aud stores which were being landed in the south of France. The attack was repulsed by United States destroyers, ami after a spirited engagement four enemy craft wore sunk. The latest message from the naval commander, Vice-Admiral Hewitt, L.S.N., sent late on Thursday evening, reports that British and, American naval aircraft have flown from seven British and (wo Unifed Slates aircraft-carriers under lhe command of Admiral Troubridgc. with the ling in 11.M.5. Royalist. It is known that the British battleship Ramillics and six British cruisers look part in the assault on southern France.
