PRISONERS OF WAR
During the past fortnight advice has bee'’ received by the Prisoners of Inquiry Office Headquarters that another 16 of the prisoners who were unaccounted for from Italian camps,are now in German prisoner of war camps. Iwo further prisoners have made their escape to the Allied lines. The total number yet to be accounted for from Italian p.o.w. camps is 263. The Inquiry Office Headquarters has received cable advice regarding the visit of an International Red Cross representative to Stalag XVIIIA in June last. It is stated that 10 per cent, of the 10.00(1 British prisoners located at this camp are New Zealanders. In the main Stalag the accommodation is satisfactory and the food and biothing are good. A further cable report from the International Red Cross refers to the visit of their representative to Stalag oi< (XVIIIC) during the same mouth. There are 85 New Zealanders among the prisoners of war at this camp. w lneh houses just over 11,000 prisoners. The food supplied is satisfactory, a special kitchen being reserved for the British prisoners. Clothing is adequate. The canteen is now better stocked and the sanitary installations are being improved.
