REP. HOCKEY MATCH

Wellington Beat Delta

Stronger in flic forwards and Ira If-backs and at least equal hi strength iu the other positions, the Wellington men’s hockey representative team beat Air Force (Delta) on the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday, by 5 goals to 2. There was one change in the Wellington team from that selected, Jobannson replacing Thrush at right back. Later in the game, when Ivor Ting at inside right received a painful cut over his right eye when struck by the ball. Johannsen took his place in the forwards and 'Wellington played but one full-back.

The first score of the game came early, W. Smiler putting in a clean shot from a penalty corner. A period of fairly even play followed, till Wellington attacked on the left and Smiler crossed to Nicholls in the circle, and the latter put iu a swift shot which passed just inside the left goalpost. There was no further score before half-time, though Wellington pressed most of the time. From the bully off after the interval Wellington straight down the held and Neate, Hashing in. from the right wing, took the hall through the goal, putting Wellington three clear goals in the lead. Air Force retaliated. They began a series of attacks which culminated in O’Keefe, their centre-forward, carrying through into the Wellington goal. Ting was injured and retired, and with only one back protecting him. Reid, in the Wellington goal, came into the picture with some fine saves. /

Wellington scored again, however, before Air Force added a second goal. Wellington's goal was scored by the captain and selector. Tom Ferguson, and O’Keefe adder! his second for Air Force. A goal by Johannsen ended Wellington’s tally.

For Petone, Misses Rita McMurray, centre forward, had a keen eye In tlic circle, scoring four goals, Miss Rita Inge wns an excellent, support in the attacks, and Miss I. Neels, inside left, showed her versatility as a seorjng medium for Garrison iu the second spell, securing three goals in succession. She was unlucky not. to score another. Miss J. Thornton, centre-forward, was a good foil for lhe inner left, while Miss Henderson, inside right, played to good advantage. Though C.O.G. had little difficulty in beating Varsity, the match was more interesting than the score indicated.
