A Washington message states that United States submarines have sunk 17 more Japanese ships in the Pacific and J-’ar Eastern waters, states a navy communique. They comprised an escort vessel, a large cargo transport, <i medium tanker, a medium transport, three medium cargo transports, six medium cargo ships, and four small cargo vessels. An Admiralty communique reports that, in the course of intensified operations against Japanese shipping British submarines recently destroyed 21 supply vessels and other craft in Far Eastern waters. Two supply ships were hit by torpedoes, a small tanker was.severely damaged by gunfire, and other ships were damaged. In addition to these operations among islands in the Pacific, our submarines have sailed close in shore and shelled oil tanks on the northern coast of Sumatra and targets on the northern part of Ross Island.
