THE Second Quarterly Instalment of the , Social Security Charge and National Secu- > rity Tax ot 2/6 in the 11 ou income other than salary or wages derived during the ■ year ended March 31, 1914, falls due on i August il. Amounts unpaid within one month following the due date incur 10 per I cent, penalty. The charge is payable by:— ; (a) All persons aged 16 years or over , ordinarily resident in New Zealand (iu- ■ eluding natives but excluding persons receiving total disability war pensions iu . respect of service in the 1914-1919 War). (b) All trustees in respect of income derived by the estate or trust, whether or not the beneficiaries are entitled to receive such income during the income year. Payment may be made at any moneyorder office upon production ot the previous receipt or remitted to the Commissioner of Taxes, Wellington, together with the previous receipt or full particulars thereof. Limited Liability Companies: The combined charge payable by a company or other corporate body on income derived during Hie year ended -March 31. 1944, is payable in one sum early in February next. An assessment, followed by a demand for the combined charge will be issued in due course, as in the case of income-tax. The charge payable by a company in liquidation in respect of income derived up to the date of liquidation is payable in one sum upon the date of liquidation. , Wages Tax: Employers who engage labour, whether permanent or casual, and whether on a time, piece-work, or contract basis arc 'required to deduct wages tax from the payments for such labour, at the rate of one penny In every eight pence or part thereof (2/6 lu 44), and to account therefor within three days of deduction, either by means of wages tax stamps affixed and cancelled in a wages book, or by payment to any post office. ■Severe penalties are provided for noncompliance with the requirements. Social Security Registration Fee: A quarterly instalment (5/-) is payable on August 1 by male persons aged 20 years or over ordinarily resident in New Zealand, who are not exempt. Exemption details and forms may be obtained at money-order offices. Every person entitled to exemption (Including those receiving Age Benefits under the Social Security Aet but no other income) must complete the exemption application form and present it with his coupon-book at a money-order office within 7 days .after the last day for payment of the instalment, otherwise payment may be demanded. The Surname (iu block letters), full Christian names, full residential address and name and address of Employer (if any), must be entered on the relative coupon before payment of any instalment. An employer, employing for more than seven days a person unregistered or iu arrear with the Registration Fee is liable on summary conviction to a fine of £2O. All persons ordinarily resident in New Zealand must register under the Social Security Act within one month of attaining the age of sixteen and obtain a coupon-book.
