CANTEEN PROFITS
Gesture By Shipping
Company
The National Patriotic Fund Board has received from the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Ltd., through its New Zealand manager. Air. E. V. Bevan, a cheque for £1298/9/10, representing profits from canteens which it is necessary for the company to maintain on its ships when they are used as transports for carrying service personnel. This is the second cheque of this kind given by the company to the hoard in the current year, the other being £1468/1/3, which was received in January. The profits received from the canteeus established for troops on the company’s ships are the property of the company, but its London oilice. not wishing to retain any profits earned in this way, decided that all sums raised should be passed over to the service charities iu the United Kingdom and the Dominions so that the service personnel would derive the benefit from them. The cheques received by the National Patriotic Fund Board represent the New Zealand allocations. The acting-secretary of the board, Air. G. Brocklehurst, said yesterday that the action of the company was greatly appreciated. The money will be allocated to the 11 provincial patriotic councils on a pro rata basis. _ Also acknowledged is a cheque for ilJa representing the forty-first instalment from the Post and Telegraph staffs. To date these employees through their patriotic fund have contributed a total of £12,494 to the National Patrioic Fund.
