Paper Mills, £2/0/3. RESERVE BANK Sterling Funds Higher The sterling exchange funds of the Reserve Bank on May 22 totalled £30,690,654, an increase of £476,569. The note issue at £37,142,577 shows an increase for the week of £206,433. The statement as at Monday, May 22, is as follows:— LIABILITIES.

Proportion of reserve to notes and other demand liabilities, 39.088 per cent., compared with 38.743 per cent, on May 15. The reserve on May 22 was £33.459,331, an increase of £489,647. A year ago the reserve was £30,869,792, \ Sterling exchange on May 22 amounted to £30,690,654, an increase of £476,569. Liabilities in currences other than New Zealand currency total £33,200 (a decrease of £13,078), thus making the bank’s net overseas assets £30,657,454, coibpared with £30.167,807 on May 15, an increase of £489,647. A year ago these assets were £28,067,915. Advances to the State Marketing Department total £5,853,482, a decrease of £82,849. A year ago they wore £8,172,77n. Advances to the State for other purposes remain unchanged at £35,885,000, compared with £31,135,000 a year ago. ' The note Issue on May 22 totalled £37,142,577, an increase of £206,433. A vear ago it was £31,879,352 and two years ago £24,652,196. Demand liabilities to the State amount to £10,936,730, a decrease of £1,904,124 The trading banks’ reserve balances total £36,831,616, an increase ot £1.790,953.
