De Valera’s Government Has Big Majority INCOMPLETE RESULTS LONDON, May 31. The counting of votes cast in the Eire general election, which was held yesterday, is now proceeding. There were 248 candidates for 134 seats. The Fianna Fail, with 97 candidates, is the only party that is putting forward sufficient candidates to form a Government if they ate elected. The Fine Gael, the principal Opposition ; party, has 54 candidates. Late tonight the state of parties was given as:—'Fianna Fail, 42; Fine Gael, i 11; Labour, 1; National Labour, 2-; Farmers, 3; Independents, 5. The Fianna Fail so far has gained three seats. Mr. De Valera headed the poll iu, County Clare with 14.200 votes, which is 761 fewer than at the last election. A later return shows that Mr. De Valera’s party now holds 58 seats, against 35 for all the other parties. Nearly 50 results are still to come, but so far the; Government has gained seven seats. All 1 the members of Mr. De Valera’s Government have been re-elected.
