ARRIVAL IN TURKEY
Families Of Soviet Union Officials In Bulgaria LONDON, May 31. The arrival at Istanbul of the wives and children of officials of the* Soviet Legation at Sofia gives substance to reports that diplomatic relations between Russia and Bulgaria have reached a critical stage, says the Ankara correspondent of tile “Daily Telegraph.” Three weeks ago Russia handed Bulgaria an ultimatum demanding an immediate end to Bulgaria’s co-operation with the German forces and the reopening of three Soviet consulates in Bulgaria which were closed 18 months ago after the consulate at Varna was searched contrary to diplomatic rules. Seven Bulgarian officers have arrived in Turkey and declared their intention of joining the Russians. Messages received in Berne from Sofia state that 41 Bulgarian staff officers have been dismissed and that a general purge under German control continues. The German Foreign Office reported today that though the reconstruction of the Government had been intended for Bulgaria the plan has not succeeded and the old Government thus remains in office.
