EMBASSY STATEMENT
Kravchenko Affair WASHINGTON, April 7. Commenting on tlie statement of Victor Kravchenko criticizing the Soviet regime, the Soviet Embassy declared that ho was not a member of the Soviet Purchasing Commission. It added that, being on military service and sent, for temporary work at the disposal of (he commission, Kravchenko hud to return to Russia Io continue his military service, but a fortnight before he was due to leave he betrayed his military duty and bei'nnio a deserter, refusing to return Io the Motherland. To cover his desertion he made slanderous statements about the Soviet Union.
Ill’s statements did not require denials in view of their evidently false character.
