MEAT RATION

Related To Ceiling Price

Because the meat ration is on an expenditure basis, questions have arisen about the price that should be paid for. meat. The Food and Rationing Controller, Mr. J. E. Thomas, stated yesterday that the ration was related to the ceiling price under the Meat Brice Orde.r, These ceiling prices were for “cash and carry. One question that had been asked was whether people in some districts .might not get less meat than others through having to pay a higher price for meat on account of booking n nd-.deli very charges, said Mr, Thomas. The position was that the ration was related to the amount paid for meat only, excluding any incidental charges. e.g„ where meat purchases amounted to 1/4 but Id. of the total represented booking ■ and delivery charges, then coupons need be surrendered only for 1/3—the net charge for the meat. Where invoices were given in such cases, it would be advisable for the retailers to show the net charge for meat and the additional charges as separate items.
