A tine of £5 was inflicted on a Maori labourer, Patrick Walker, aged 19, in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, for assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty. Accused was drinking with a party near a dance hall on Saturday night. When the constable accosted them, Walker lilt him with a bottle and ran away. Jail was the usual penalty for this type of offence, said Mr. Stout, S.M., in imposing the fine. A lecture will be given in Nimmo’s Hall, Wellington, tonight, at 8 o’clock >by Sister L.
