Prince Grattan improved 14 seconds on his handicap when he led all the way aud won the Trial Handicap. Knave of Diamonds, Statuette, Nola Scott and Cold Steel trailed the winner all the way. Knave of Diamonds weakened as soon as they reached the straight, and Scott Axworthy, who had been pocketed, secured an opening and came away to run Prince Grattan to half a length. Cold Steel finished over the others, of whom the best were Knave of Diamonds aud Larissa. If Southland had been rated more evenly he probably would have won the Belfast Handicap. He led for a mile and a Quarter with Safety Pin, Goldflndcr. Tenpennybit and In the Mood following. Three furlongs from home Southland slipped the field and opened up a gap on the field, but he tired soon after turning for home and Safety Pin dashed past him at the distance and went on to win easily from the tiring Southland, who held on long enough to keep second money from Zlngarrie. In the Mood aud Festivity were next. At the end of two furlongs Golden Shadow dropped bis driver, J. Bryce, and this caused In the Mood to bo checked and Gallant Chief to be put out of the race. Bryce escaped injury, though he was dragged some distance.

Battle Colours and Integrity fought out the finish of the Waimairi Handicap on their own at least eight lengths clear of the others. Ronald Logan was the early leader, but Integrity, who had lost ground, quickijr made it up and took over the pace from Ronald Logan. Braw Lass, Accountant, Battle Colours, Gold Pot and Catalpa. Commencing the last round Braw Lass had charge from Accountant and Integrity, with Gold Pot, Ronald Logan, Stormiest, Battle Colours and Catalpa trailing in that order. As soon as they turned for home Integrity put on what appeared to be a winning break of four lengths, but Battle Colours came away from the remainder and in a hard finish he ran down Integrity to win by half a head. Gold Pot was eight lengths away third, and Catalpa, Braw Lass, and Accountant arrived next. Sports Guide scored a very easy win in the Beach Handicap in which the chances of several runners were prejudiced when Courier broke at the end of two furlongs and brought-, down Wainoni Girl, who interfered with several others. Great News

raced clear at the time of the smash and shot to th? front. but a round from home Sports Guide took over and from that stage he was never afterward headed. Great News. Watcher. Silhouette. Lady Dawn and Sa'bu trailed Sports Guide over the last round, but none could get near to him and he won comfortably by a length and a half from Great News. Sa'bu finished too well for the tiring horses, Watcher, Silhouette and Lady Dawn, the last-named being fourth. Te Kahu tried to win the Autumn Handicap for trotters all the way. but he was in distress at the end.of a mile and five furlongs, and over the concluding stages Lady Scott, the favourite, had the position safely in hand and scored a comfortable win from Great Mountain, who impressed ns a likely improver. Though he tired in the last two furlongs, Tc Kahu held on long enough to take third money .from Mah ■Tong, who trotted well. Sagamore and Mohican ruined their chances by breaking. A protest by J. F. Foley, driver, of Great Mountain, against the winner, for alleged crossing in the straight, was dismissed. Cabin Boy. the favourite, was too good for his opponents in the Eclipse Handicap. Ho lay sixth in the running for about a mile and a quarter while Gold Sheik, Pocket Kook. Blnky JHllon, Erin’s Country and Great Deceiver made the pace. As soon as they reached the straight, Cabin Boy, with plenty in reserve, ran past the field and drew out to an easy win by four lengths from Audition. who was back early, but made up ground on the turn and joined the leaders at the last furlong. Scottish Lady, who was twice in trouble, made up a lot. of ground to finish third, with Blnky Dillon and Erin’s Country next.
