MANPOWER BREACHES
Several persons were dealt with before Mr. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, for manpower breaches. Senior-Sergeant Murphv prosecuted. For failing to register for work of national importance, Edward Charles Pope, chef, was ordered to pay costs, and Kathleen Frances Green, sorter, was fined £2. For failing to comply with directions to work, Arthur John Barnes, labourer (third appearance), directed to work as a freezing chamber hand, was fined £5; Albert Kennedy, painter, directed to work for T. A. Wells, Limited, was fined £3; Dorothy May Mary Preston (third appearance), directed to -work at a tobacco factory (continuing offence), was fined £3; Va'lma Jean Turner, directed to work at a clothing factory, fined £2.
