When Invasion Starts
(Received February 19, 1.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, February 18.
“We will need and will have for the invasion of Europe the greatest aerial umbrella ever assembled,” said General Arnold, chief of the U.S. Army Air Forces, in a broadcast.. “Germany will throw up every plane she has to halt us.” be said, “but will not do any good because we will keep going in spite of losses. We can be confident of the outcome of this mass assault on the European fortress.” Arnold added that the pound.age of planes produced in the United States this year would exceed last year's production by 60 per cent. It is officially announced in London that the Ninth United States Air Force which has been operating in the .Middle East since the end of 1942 is now in Britain as part of the Allied Expeditionary Air Force. It has already-been assigned its second front duties.
