DESERTED TO BRITISH
German Legation Staff
LONDON, February 16. Within a week six members of the German Legation staff at Istanbul have deserted to the British. The angriest man in Istanbul is Herr Brun Wolff,- a regular movie type of Gestapo chief, says the “Daily Express/’ Last Friday,Wolff ordered Captain Hamberger, a Gestapo agent, to go to Berlin for a few days and told him to report at the -German Embassy in half an hour. Captain Hamberger sauntered through -his hotel gates, dashed to a taxi rank, and reached a secret rendezvous. He is now hiding in Istanbul under British protection. A German military attache, General Rothe, and four other Gestapo lieutenants have been summoned to Berlin to explain the desertions from the intelligence staff. _____
