Racing World TRENTHAM MARCH MEETING

Lead Sought From Owners (By St. Simon.) When the Wellington Racing Club decided to proceed with the preliminary organization of its March meeting it was announced that the stewards will review the position on -March 1, when acceptances are taken. It has now been found that this date will be too late for owners and trainers in the more distant localities. Consequently the club is asking those entering horses to give an indication at time of nomination of their intentions regarding their horses -being at the meeting as it may be necessary to review the situation before the date of acceptance, From information the club has received it is unlikely that there will he any improvement in the transport position before that date.

Remaining in North. , The southern trainer F. C. Christie is remaining at Awapuni till the position <>t racing is clarified. Old Glory, who is a difficult horse to ride in routine work, has responded well to J. Fagan’s handling. He has been galloped twice this week, and yesterdav morning moved well over half a mile In good average time. The two-y<ar-old Rahlri, a half-brother to Old Glory, has derived Improvement with the racing he had at Trentham and has settled down well in his new quarters. He is a good type of colt by Defaulter and gteatly favours, his grandsire, Defoe, in colour, markings and type.

Cross-country Prospect. Red Glare has been in work for nearly two months, preparing for the opening of the jumping season, and he-Is holding his condition -better just now than he did earlier in his career. This gelding showed great dash when put to steeplechasing last season and requires only seasoned condition to-make good over country. Greenfeaat Spelling. The Wellington October winner Greenfeast is at present spelling, and may be offered for sale in the near future.

Two Improvers. J. McLean is now training Catterlck Bridge and Cuba at Hastings for Mr. H. M. Glazebrook. Catterick Bridge has not raced this season, but is in solid condition and has become more tractable In his work. His' latest efforts on the track have been encouraging. Cuba is a solidlybuilt Fox-bridge filly from Eager Rose, and would easily pass for a three-year-old. On account of her rapid growth she has been given plenty of time, and nothing very serious is going to be asked from her in her first season, though she is showing pace in her work.

Franklin Carrying On. The executive of the Franklin Racing Club, at a,special meeting last week, decided that every effort would be made to carry out the autumn programme at Te Rapa on March 4. A sub-committee was appointed to amend, if necessary, the prize-money. Tile secretary, Mr. W. .T. Short, said that clubs owed a duty to owners. trainers, jockeys and others dependent on racing for a livelihood, and that his committee viewed the matter- in that light. Unless a verv drastic change in travel restrictions was imposed, the meeting would be held. Regal Fox Back. Regal Fox. a Great Northern Derby winner. s’hp, went amiss some months ago, has been put into work again at Avondale by H. E. Goldfinch.

Broielov Resting. When the two-year-old Broielov fell in the Putaruru Stakes at Matamata he escaped serious injury, but he has had to be rested in the meantime, ’owing to soreness. Broielov won three races in succession on the holiday circuit in Taranaki and he was an improver who looked like being very useful in the autumn. The fall has given him a setback at a stage when he may have been mailing a good deal of progress. but 4 he may come to hand quickly a-ain when he recovers. Broielov lacks size, -but he shows a lot of quality and Is full of courage. i Related to Sea Spl.

Till recently tlie two-year-old Tagore has had an easy time, but D. J. Arnott has been sending him along faster in his work lately, and he Is showing improved condition. It is probable that Tagore will be given' his first race in the near future, and his effort will be watched with interest because he is a half-brother, by Golden Eagle, to -Sea Spi. one of the best two-year-olds in the Dominion last season. Tagore is a robust colt who may need time, though a race or two mav sharpen him up quickly. First in North.

The southern starter. Mr. L. G. Morris, officiated for the first time in the Auckland district at the Rotorua Racing Club’s summer meeting at Matamata. Mr. Morris did very well (says the “Herald”), his starting (being uniformly good, in spite of the fact, that he had to deal with several big fields, which included a number of very green horses.

Might Win a Good One. With nine pounds more than he carried successfully the previous week in the Matamata Cup. Raurimu ran another good race for third in the Rotorua Cup, in which he went to the front in the middle stages after covering a lot of ground on the outside round the first turn. Every run is improving Ranrimu. and ho may win an important handicap before the season is over. He has given Indications of being able to stay well and that is not-surprising in view of his good breeding. Another Trial. Schoolgirl, who was retired from racing two- years, ago. but has since failed to breed, has been put in work again by her owner. Mr. G. Humphries; and is back in C. Humphries's team.
