Wrapping Of Bread
Sir, —A correspondent recently drew the attention of your paper to the fact that bread was not being wrapped, thus providing a means whereby germs of many seasonal diseases are being uu wittingly spread, particularly among children. This prompts the writer to inquire of the authorities, why bread, an important item in diet of every family, cannot be wrapped? Is this due to the fact (a) that supplies of bread wrapping have been short or are unobtainable at present? or (b) that retailers in Ihe interests of economy, cutting down overhead, will not wrap bread? This obvious menace should not be allowed to continue, and remembering the many ills that beset our tiny tois today, it is up to the Government through powers vested in it, for example, the Health Department, to' investigate the above position, in the interests of public health.—l am, etc., PATER FAMILIA. Wellington, February 16.
