Magnificent Display

The flower show held under tbe auspices of the Hutt Valley Horticultural boc ctjat St. James’s Hall. Lower Hutt, yesteiday afternoon and-eveuing. and to be continued, tomorrow afternoon and evening, was adjudged, by common consent, the finest displav since tbe shows were held at "tJames’s Hall, a step made necessary when tbe society’s own line ball was. required lor other purposes. J. W Andrews, mayor of Lower Hutt, wek-ouicd Mr D’Alton to tin* city, on behalf uf the citizens, and Mr. N. B Gibbous, president of the society, welcomed him on oeliall 01 the society. Mr. D’Alton, who revealed a wide knowledge o' the subject, said that he had never seen a liner display ot be ■gonias. and tbe gladioli and dahlias were mn"uificeiit. Mr. Gibbons said he had taken a special interest in begonias while in England, but bad nover seen specimens or finer quality and variety. Miss Andrews accompanied -Mr. Andrews, and also on tic stage were Mrs. Gibbons and Mr. 11, J. IL Matthews and MrGrcar Mr. Poole's begonias were massed 'beneath the stage, and Mr. Freeinan s dis-r-.-iv was at the lav end of tbe hall. Another stand comprised very hue dahlias exhibited by Mr. .Mason, of 1 eliding.
