PRICE FOR BUTTER
Britain And New Zealand Negotiating Dominion Special Service. AUCKLAND, February 15. “Negotiations are now in progress between the British and New Zealand Governments in regard to an increase in the price paid for butter,” said Mr. Murdoch. M.P. for Marsden, and a member of the Dairy Board, at the Northland dairy conference in Whangarei today. As to what, if any, increase would be passed on to the dairy-farmer he had no information. “There is a feeling of unrest in rural areas in regard to the present guaranteed price and farmers’ costs,” said Mr.’ Murdoch. -Stabilization of the farmers’ returns per lb. butterfat had been effected, but not of costs. Owing to the decrease in production the farmers’ returns had actually fallen in face of the rising costs.
