DELAYING ADVANCE
Expected German Tactics (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February' 14. By their rapid sweep round along the eastern shores of Lake Peipus the Russians are now in a position to advance southward between Luga and Pskov, behind the German lines stretching from Lake Ilmen to the Novo Sokolniki sector. The Germans are expected to continue the tactics of holding up the advance everywhere as long as possible with the least possible losses. Hitherto, except in some parts of the Dnieper bend, these tactics., have been very effective. There are several possible defence positions guarding their northern flank between the Baltic and the White Russian front, to which they could slowly fall -back. The Russian approach to Pskov means that the threat to Staraya Russa is becoming serious.
