RETURNED MEN
Freedom From Manpower Direction
“Generally speaking, any man discharged from the forces after service overseas is not subject to manpower direction," said the Minister of Rehabilitation. Major Skinner, in reply to an inquiry following an address he had given yesterday to the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers. The Minister added that though the situation in regard to manpower requirements was made known to ex-servicemen, any returned man was quite free to take up any trade or calling he wished, or to continue his education at the university if he so desired. The manpower position, therefore, did not affect rehabilitation very much, and only to the extent that it made it difficult to obtain labour for rehabilitation schemes.
