WELLINGTON CRICKET
Due to the restrictions on railway travel preventing the Canterbury cricket team playing Otago at Dunedin this month and the Wellington team travelling to Auckland, the Canterbury association has agreed, to send a representative team to play Wellington, at Wellington, on February 25, 26 and 28. This information was received by the management committee of the Wellington association yesterday. Mr. W. A. Baker was appointed manager of the Wellington team and Mr. A. Ronaldson to look after the interests of the Canterbury players.' The sole selector, Mr. W. A. Baker, has chosen the following players to practice in view of the final selection of the team tomorrow night: E. W. Tindill (captain), S. A. McVicar, N. Hoar, W. G. Bain, R. Crawford. E. Bezzant, G. H. Stringer, F. H. L. Mooney, R. Buchan,. 11. Chapman. J. G. Ashenden, D. Knapp, and R. Allen. The Petone club wrote complaining that no umpires had attended their match against Midland-Wellington on Petone Reserve last Saturday. The chairman, Mr. J. D. Howitt, said both umpires appointed to act in the match had stated that they had received no notification of their appointment. There seemed to be a peculiar system of appointing umpires, and if the committee did not do something they would have few umpires next season. On the motion of Mr. H. E. Moore. It was decided that the umpires’ appointment board and the Junior championship committee of the association meet every Monday at 12.15 p.m. to appoint umpires for Saturday's games.
