PETONE PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS

Attention was drawn at last nights meeting of the Petone Borough Council to the'fact that a number of the pedestrian crossings in the borough did not conform, to the regulations in that marker poles'were not provided. The regulations state that a pole not less than three inches in diameter and not less than seven feet high must be placed at either end of a crossing. The insufficient markings on the Petone, Pedestrian crossings made a greater liability for claim on the council, aud a motion was carried that posts be erected and the crossings painted'. A recommendation was made that the prohibition of turning in Jackson Street be lifted. It was stated that Petone was one of the few towns in the Dominion where this prohibition had been enforced. Jackson Street had been widened at places, and this permitted careful drivers to turn safely. The recommendation was adopted.
