SHELLED BY GERMANS

American Field Hospital At Beach-head

(Received February .13, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, February 12. Reuter’s correspondent at the beachhead in Italy reports that four German shells hit a clearly-marked American field hospital on Thursday night, killing two women nurses and wounding four medical officers and three soldiers. Shells from a German long-range gun fell among the tents of the hospital, says British Official Wireless. The first shell exploded in a former reception marquee without causing any casualties. The next two were air bursts over the hospital, and killed two nurses who had apparently not taken cover in trenches. The shells also sot fire to a generator, and general evacuation of the hospital was ordered. The fourth shell fell as lhe patients were being’ moved. It wrecked lhe X-ray plant, dental laboratory and dispensary and injured the surgeons.
