Tile number of deaths in Bengal in 1943 was between 000,000 and 700,000 more than in a normal year. reports the Calcutta correspondent of the ExchangeTelegraph. 'The figuresA were given by Mr. Gengals, Moslem Minister of Health in the Legislative Council. The corresjjondent says the Ministers statement indicates the toll from famine in 1943. but emphasizes that disease is still rampant in some districts and the rise in mortality is causing alarm.
