AUSTRALIAN COAL
Unable To Maintain Reserves (Received February 11, 11 p.m.) CANBERRA, February 11. “I only wish there was somebody in this country who could tell me how to get more coal,” the Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin, declared in the House of Representatives today. “The. problem is one of keeping pace with requirements,” he said. “Last year we provided about 800,000 tons less than the previous year and we have been unable to maintain reserves.” Mr. Curtin said that Britain and America had both asked Australia to send coal to Europe because of their own coal problems. New Zealand also wanted Australian coal.
