N.Z.-BORN A.I.F. COLONEL
Reported Killed In Action
MELBOURNE. February 11. Lieutenant-Colonel D. G. Matheson, M.C.', M.M., D.S.C., of the Australian Army, is reported to have been killed in action on January 30. He was born in New Zealand and was a well-known mining, engineer. Enlisting in the .last war at the age of thirteen, he won the M.O. and M.M., and in this war he served as a commando leader, principally with the American forces in the .South-west and .South Pacific areas. He was awarded the American DjS.C. for "extraordinary heroism” on Guadalcanal in December, 1942.
