“A YANK IN DUTCH”

(Second week).—A British film studio, a year or two back dropped a group of 11.A.F. meu down in Holland, and called the result “One of Our Aircraft is Missing.” It was mostly grim. Hollywood's same line of action, called “A Yank in Dutch” (King’s), has a distinct comedy touch—and none the worse for that. When I had recovered from my first bewilderment. why tho adventures of a British pilot in Holland should bo called “A Yank in Dutch” I settled down to thoroughly enjoy this picture. Francbot Tone, whoso looks, voice and screen name of Christopher Reynolds, all betoken tbe Oxford man. is the flyer who is projected into a Dutch household. Its members are very ready to help him, but bd must, for the sake of the Gestapo in the neighbourhood, pose as tho husband of the Dutch daughter. This Is no hardship, for slie turns out to be Joan Bennett, to whose looks, figure, and coiffure years of Nazi oppression have done practically nothing. Having stepped into another man’s shoes (a husband who is conveniently resting in a home for. inebriates), he is made temporarily unhappy by tbe discovery that he is due to be divorced the next day. The real husband turns up. so does a Nazi officer (excellently played by Allyn Joslyn). and the comedy, strangely enough, grows hilarious and almost slapstick.
