G.N. TROTTING DERBY

Southern Aspirants Have

Best Credentials

The .Great Northern Trotting Derby will pe run at Alexandra Park, Epsom, tomorrow, and the ruling favourites are Imperial Lady, Acropolis and Bay Machine. While Imperial Lady is entitled to be regarded as the best three-year-old pacer of’ the season, Acropolis has been her most serious opponent- for the honours. He raced consistently as a two-year-old. and proved the best of Mis age by winning the New- Zealand Sapling Stakes. He opened his three-year-old account with a second to Paul Collette in the Canterbury Stakes ' in August, and was narrowly beaten by Scottish Emperor in the Wellington Stakes. He beat all but Bonny Bridge in the New Zealand Derby Stakes, after losing several lengths in the early stages of the race. During the spring and summer periods ho did not exhibit the dash that characterized Ills two-year-old achievement, but has shown signs of improvement In his recent efforts in private. It can be said that Imperial Lady, too, has made good progress, and the contest •between these two will invest the race with considerable interest for Scuta Islanders, for both come from the South. Since the final forfeits were taken two other southerners, Bel Hamed , and Scottish Emperor have been withdrawn.
