INSPECTION OF BOOKS

Power Of Stabilization Commission An assurance that the power given to the Economic Stabilization Commission, under the new regulations, to inspect the books of business, concerns would not be put into the hands of irresponsible persons, was given in official quarters yesterday. It was stated that no one would be commissioned to inspect books as he thought fit; the decision to inspect the books' of a specific firm would be made by the commis_sion, and the officer deputed to make an investigation would be provided with, and would produce to the firm, an authority signed by the chairman of the commission, Mr. B. C. Ashwin. The amendments to the regulations provide that for the purpose of obtaining any information that may be required by the commission for the purposes of the regulations, the commission or any person appointed by it may (a) inspect and examine any books, accounts, vouchers, records. or documents; (b) require any person to produce any books, accounts, vouchers, records, or documents iu his possession or under his control, and to allow copies of or extracts from any such books, accounts, vouchers, records, or documents to be made I (c) require any person to furnish, in a form to be approved by or acceptable to the commission. any information or particulars that may be required by the commission; and (d) enter any lana, building, or place. The amendment also defines offences against this particular provision, and the employer is also made liable for any offence against the regulation committed by a servant or agent in the course of his employment.
