NO GREAT HOLD-UP

Essential Goods Traffic In South Island

(B’ Telegraph.—Press Association.) ‘ CHRISTCHURCH, February 9. No indications of when the railway travel restrictions would be lifted could be given by railway officials yesterday. It was stated that no word on the subject had been received from Wellington and in the meantime every effort was being made to copc with the situation brought about by the restrictions. Inspection of the coul storage area showed that a considerable quantity of coal has come into stock, but the reserve is not building up as quickly as was expected. As a result some sources vstimate that it may be the end of March or the beginning of April before railway traffic can return to normal. Advantage is being taken of the restricted traffic to overhaul locomotives and rolling stock and the Addington workshops are busier than ever. No untoward hold-up has been caused in the carriage of essential goods, and a considerable quantity of grain has been transported.
