Central Council Meeting

A meeting of the central council of the New Zealand Federation of Health Camps wns held recently. It. comprised representatives from Taranaki, Wanganui, East Coast and Poverty Bav, the Post and Telegraph Department, Health Department and Wellington Health Camp Committee. Mr. A. Fellow, who is at present chief postmaster at Wellington, was elected chairman of the council for the ensuing year in place of Mr. J. Madden, who had resigned. Mr. Follow when chief postmaster nt Napier was chairman of the Hawke’s Bay Health Camp executive, and was closely associated with the work while at Wanganui. The report of the work of the publicity committee set up by the Wellington Central Council for the purpose of conducting the 1043-44 health stamp campaign was considered, and the council expressed its sincere appreciation for the excellent work that had been carried out by this committee. Thanks were also recorded to the Junior Red Cross Circles throughout the council’s district, who have always taken a practical interest in the health camp movement. The sum of £2282/16/5 was disbursed to the six district executives in the form of a subsidy, of £1 for £1 on the results of their own efforts for the 1042-43 health stamp campaign. The deep appreciation of the council wns also placed on record for the assistance rendered by the Director-t General of the Post and Telegraph Department and his staff for the practical service they continue to give to the health camp movement, also to the Director-General of the Department of Health, his medical officers W health and the district nurses for the practical service they have given to the health camp movement over a number of years. „ „ ~ Dr. H. Following on the meeting of the council. Dr. iH. E. Gibbs, chairman of the Wellington executive, expressed the hope that the public of Wellington would make a special effort by purchasing health stamps before they "were withdrawn on Tuesday, February 29. Dr. Gibbs said that the business community had responded remarkably well, and tha t if each householder purchased 1/- worth of health stamps between now and the end of February, the health camp movement would benefit to the extent of approximately £lOOO. Dr. Gibbs stated that if no unforeseen circumstances arose there was every prospect of the loeal executive reoccupying the health camp at Otaki in April, and the money subscribed from the public by the purchase of health stamps would substantially assist the association immediately to fill the camp with children of school age who were deemed by medical officers to be in need of health camp life. He also made special reference to the magnificent effort of the members of the Wellington (Rotary Club who, as a result of their usual Christmas effort through the good services of Mr. Frank Campbell, were to benefit by approximately £2W.
