PROMINENT WOMAN M.P.

Much gratification has been expressed by women at the report that Dr. Edith Summerskill, M.P., will accompany the Empire Parliamentary Association’s delegation to Australia. A London paper stated that the nomination of a woman member of Parliament was favoured and Dr. Summerskill was the most likely choice.

Tall, slim and auburn-haired, Dr. Summerskill is not only a very attractive, but also a fearless and competent woman. She has been described as one who “carries herself like a guardsman, and has at times a tongue like a rapier in the House.” She has long been a prominent figure among women in the political life of Great Britain, and has been particularly active in sponsoring the Equal Citizenship Bill., for men and women alike, and in demanding that the inequalities of the laws operating against women in industry and against the status of housewives shall be removed. She is also a keen supporter of the “Women to Westminster” movement.

TEST FOR HOUSEWIVES Meat rationing, on the scale fixed in Australia, should not produce any crisis in the kitchen, but it will put more emphasis on mutton, and may demand a good deal of adjustment on the part of the housewife, states the “Sydney Morning Herald.” Meals for the family will have to be planned with much more imagination and initiative.
