STRUCK WITH BOTTLE
Young Woman Attacked While Asleep
(By Telegraph.— Press Association.) DUNEDIN, December 10.
Miss Eileen Mary Taylor, a young woman who is employed as a tram conductor and resides at 56 Eglinton Road, was the victim of what the police described as a “dastardly assault without apparent motive” at her home at about 3.4 u p.m. yesterday. Miss Taylor was resting on a bed when she was struck on the head with a bottle. She was alone in the house when she lay down, and was bleeding profusely from a cut at the back of the head when she regained consciousness. The power portion of a broken beer bottle was found near the pillow. The injured woman did not see or hear anyone as she had fallen asleep. Miss Taylor’s mother had been out shopping, and when she returned to the house she found her daughter in a dazed condition and unabel to say what had happened. The police and the ambulance were summoned and Miss Taylor was taken to hospital, where it was found necessary to stitch the wound. The injury is not serious and it was reported today her condition was satisfactory. Detectives are inquiring into the matter.
